Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley explores the world of podcasts searching for the history of the Caribbean, colonialism and more inspirations for her/their main artistic medium of work, video gaming.
As a relative newcomer to the city, Danielle has been working on establishing a Black Trans community while going through the social restrictions under the pandemic. The professional biography of the artist enfolds with their/her history with the video gaming as a tool of artistic-political expression. Danielle intends to challenge the capitalized, conservative and often anti-trans gaming scene and to open up a new genre, “documentary game”. Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley is a multimedia artist, game producer, animator and performer based in Berlin. Having started as a self-taught animator, she/they is/are now working on developing the Pro Black Pro Trans Archive using multiple interactive media including among others video game, animation as well as performances. Her/Their works bring together the collective Black Trans experiences from which the powerful and vivid narratives of Danielle’s works come about.
